The Middlebury Police Department encourages safety and supervision during the annual
trick-or-treat festivities. It's especially important for parents to adhere to a
few safety rules for their children when they are trick-or-treating
- Know your child's route & have them trick or treat with a parent or grown up.
- Take a flashlight & wear reflective, bright colors.
- Be sure costumes & shoes fit properly & treat bags are safe.
- Remind kids not to enter a stranger's homes or cars.
- Set rules about not eating treats until kids get home. Be sure to inspect all treats before allowing kids to eat them.
- Candy that has been opened should be thrown away.
- Homemade treats & fruits should be inspected carefully.
- Remember drivers have a hard time seeing people, especially at dusk.
- Never cross the street from between parked cars
- Make sure that fake knives, swords & guns are flexible enough to avoid accidental injury.
The Middlebury Police Department always has additional officers on patrol during Halloween.
