Identity Theft has become a serious problem. It occurs when your personal
information is obtained and used without your knowledge to commit fraud or
other crimes. Identity Theft can cost you time and money, destroy your credit
and ruin your good name.

Steps you can take to protect your personal information:
- Shred paperwork with personal information and financial documents
- Safeguard your Social Security number. Don't carry your Social Security Card in your wallet or purse or write your Social Security number on a check.
- Do not give out personal information on the telephone, through the mail or over the internet unless you know and trust who you are dealing with
- Never click on unsolicited e-mails. Use firewalls, anti-spy ware and antivirus software
- Do not use obvious passwords or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number
- Be sure to monitor your bank and billing statements as well as any financial accounts
Red Flags:
- Bills an financial statements that don't arrive on time
- Unexpected credit cards or account statements
- Denials of credit for no apparent reason
- Calls or notices about purchases you did not make
Protect yourself as soon as you suspect Identification Theft by closing accounts that have
been tampered with and filing a report with your local police department.
